Media and Film Program

VSL will embark on its journey to become a premier program in video, film, and documentary education to meet the needs of Louisville's growing industry in this area. This program will build on the strong foundation of real-world, student-centered learning already happening at VSL. This initiative will help prepare students for the future by fostering creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills. This pathway allows students to create projects that connect their interests with the wider world in meaningful ways. Not only does this align with VSL's mission, vision, and educational threads, but students will have more opportunities to display their successes on their competency-based transcripts. Starting in the 25 - 26 school year:

  • Older elementary through high school students will participate in "Media Makers Mornings," meeting with media industry professionals to learn about and from their experience.

  • Weekly Media Literacy classes equip our students to both create and critically analyze media in today's fast-paced world. Media literacy will also be integrated into the curriculum of our younger classes in the near future.

  • A student "Street Team" will produce short-form video content for VSL's social media platforms. Students may apply for positions on the team in the 25 - 26 school year.

  • Junior high and high school students will be producing short documentary films as their final project of the school year. Screening dates and times to be announced soon!
